  5. Book Recommendation: The Historical Reliability of the Gospels

Lacking the necessary time to review this book in detail, I want to make mention of it as a helpful resource, written by Craig L. Blomberg, containing much information pertaining to the reliability of the gospel accounts. While I don't endorse the author's belief in a fabled 'Q' document [1] or his ideas concerning the nature of the inspiration of the gospel accounts, there is still much of value here for the discerning Christian reader. The book may also be helpful as an antidote for those who have swallowed the sensational claims of the likes of Bart Ehrman.

[1] Consider this gem concerning the lack of evidence for 'Q': "That no-one has ever found Q does not count as strongly against the hypothesis as it would with many hypothetical documents, because by definition much if not all of Q has been preserved--embedded in the finished forms of Matthew and Luke." [p. 40]

  6. Dead Sea Scrolls Exhibition

Those of you who live in Texas will have the opportunity to visit an exhibit titled, Dead Sea Scrolls & the Bible: Ancient Artifacts, Timeless Treasures

This exhibit, which opens on July 2, 2012 and runs until January 13, 2013, is one of the largest and most comprehensive exhibitions of Dead Sea Scroll fragments ever assembled, and the largest ever presented in Texas. The exhibition will include at least 16 fragments of original Dead Sea Scrolls--seven of which have, until now, only been seen privately. In July 2012, these fragments will go on public display along with other recognized fragments and unique artifacts. Visitors to Dead Sea Scrolls & the Bible will have the opportunity to view fragments of original scrolls bearing texts from Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Deuteronomy, the Psalms, Isaiah, and Daniel.

  7. Heart to Heart: Musings of a Homeschool Mom

We are excited to announce a new book by Vicki Lewis.

Come and sit! Have a cup of coffee or tea and join me on a trip through my twenty-year journey as a homeschooling mom. Tucked inside this book are tips and tricks to guide your journey, including real-life confessions (like the fact that we never finished every math problem in the book), and encouragement to help you stay focused on Christ and obedient to His calling for your life and family. Over the years, whenever I succumbed to doubt--wondering if God really cared that I had given up so much to home school my children, if all this effort would make any difference in the end, and if I really was wasting my life, being irresponsible, or ruining my children, as some people said--God was always faithful to remind me of His sovereign call. He gently helped me remember that the success of our home school did not depend on my eloquence, organization, or abilities. Since home schooling was a conviction He had put on my heart, it was up to Him to take care of the results. I merely needed to be obedient on a daily basis, in good times and bad. Originally written as encouragement articles for home schooling newsletters and magazines, these chapters were composed in many different places along my journey. My hope is that they will reach you and encourage you in as many ways, wherever you are in your homeschooling journey.
